Welcome to the website of Inscribe Media Ltd, a company founded by John Dean and Frances Griss, freelance journalists working in the North East of England. Backed by three decades of experience, they have run their own company for seventeen years.
Inscribe Media offers writing for newspapers, magazines, company newsletters, leaflets and publicity displays.
The company offers photography, design, editing and printing services, some carried out in-house and some contracted out to reliable and good quality businesses with whom we have worked for many years.
What do we do?
John Dean is an award-winning journalist of 38 years standing. The freelance agency in which he is a director was established in September 1996. In May 1998 he was named North-East Freelance Journalist of the Year for a portfolio which included environmental and law and order affairs, and again in May 2002. In May 1999 he was named North-East Environmental Reporter of the Year and again in May 2000.
His work includes:
Feature writing on subjects including Information Technology, science, business/e-commerce, industry, education, aviation/travel, recruitment, criminal justice, the arts and the environment. He has done work for publications as diverse as Retail Newsagent, The Sunday Telegraph, Daily Express, Police Review, Farming in the North, The Northern Echo, The Sunday Post, Way2Go, BC, Close Up and Networks.
Promotional copywriting, newsletter writing and editing, public relations, and communications management, including for Durham Wildlife Trust
Project Management: Ran The Global Short Story Competition and Making A Difference, The Northern Echo’s community environmental project
Education: Works in schools and arts venues as a creative writing/literacy teacher and was a chair of governors at a primary school for ten years
John Dean is a crime novelist with sixteen books to his name, all published by Hale.

Frances Griss became a journalist in 1987 after graduating in law. She worked on newspapers around the country as a news reporter and feature writer before becoming freelance in 1997.
Frances has a lifelong interest in the environment and is interested in writing about social housing, the law, agriculture, business and family matters. She has edited publications including Durham County Life, for which she was the launch editor, and has worked as a photo journalist.
Public Sector communications support
Frances specialises in in-house communications support for public sector organisations and has worked on a freelance basis for councils and housing organisations
Frances’ work includes feature writing on subjects including the environment, science, farming and the countryside. She was one of the co-writers of the Scientia 08 book celebrating Science in Newcastle, produced for Science City. Frances’ work has appeared in many publications, including The Northern Echo, Yorkshire Life, Durham Town and Country, The Dalesman and Cumbria.
Inscribe Media carries out writing on subjects including Information Technology, science, business/e-commerce, industry, aviation/travel, criminal justice, the arts, education and the environment for newspapers and magazines.
